Hosting a children’s party can be lots of fun or a nightmare, depending on how organized you are. Here are some tips to ensure your child’s party is fun for not only the child but for the host as well.

1. Keep the amount of guests to a minimum, especially when the children are young. A good rule is to invite the amount of guests of the age of the child.

2. Set a start and finish time on the invitation. For younger children a two hour party is sufficient.

3. Ask your child if they would like a theme for their party. If they do, indicate this clearly on the invitations. Decorate the party room in the theme and enlist your child’s help to get them involved. Have their outfit chosen well before the party date.

4. Make sure you have at least one other adult to help during the party. Some parents may wish to stay, especially when the children are young. That’s fine, but enlist their help with either entertainment or serving food and drinks.

5. Have some entertainment other than games organized for the children. This may be a magician or visit from a fairy or clown. Perhaps a puppet show. You can hire these entertainers or you could perform the entertainment yourself or enlist help from family or neighbors who might be interested in performing for children.

6. Instead of an entertainer, you may wish to have a craft session for the children. There are many specialists you can hire for this. However you may have a particular craft you could teach the children, such as scrap booking or card-making. So include this in the party’s events, especially if it fits in with the theme.

7. Have a program of events written down with approximate times. This is not for the guests, but for you to keep to schedule. For example: 2 รป 2.15pm, greet guests and mingle; 2.15pm, treasure hunt; 2.45pm, pin the on the donkey; 3pm, Magic Show; 3.40pm, eat and drink, birthday cake cutting; 4pm, guests leave.

8. Have a variety of snack foods for the children, include healthy choices such as carrot and celery sticks, and cut up fruit. For drinks you can make a punch or have a few different sodas or juices available. If there is a theme to the party give your food interesting names like Shark Teeth sandwiches, Fairy Bread, Heart Hamburgers, Pirate Punch etc.

9. Have party favors available for the children as they leave. You may wish to include candy or something along the theme of the party. These could include stickers, fairy headbands, whistles, dinosaur models or small magic tricks.

10. Have your child write thank you notes (if old enough) after the party. This will help him remember the fun he had and the gifts he received.
